ABOUT US

Addiction-Recovery-Expose is the brainchild OF Pernell Johnson. That is me .I am a Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor and International Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor.

But before I became an alcohol and drug counselor. I used and abused drugs and alcohol for over 35 years. I am not proud of this but it is the truth. I used heroin and cocaine until I was arrested and put into

prison. My crimes are varied from drug dealing, pimpin, armed robbery and boosting. This was my life for many years. Although I had some success in my life of crime and I was able to marry and raise a family

through my years of addiction..

During the early years, I was a barber in a shop that specialized in what is called a “process” and I started from there using marijuana and cocaine. I had many girls working for me to help me support my habit.

This story is a little raunchy but true. My car of choice was an “Eldorado Cadillac” and I prided myself on maintaining my drug habit and riding in a Cadillac. What I found out in time that no matter my success in the end

I ended up in the same place as the junkie, bum or any other hustler, in jail and then in prison.

I can say in my distorted thinking that I had a lot of fun but the fun ended when I was sent to prison, not one but twice. It was my last arrest after getting out of prison and having a judge threatening me with life in

prison without the possibility of parole as a career criminal. This was a real shock to my nervous system.

A police officer and friend of my wife came to see me in jail. He asked if I wanted to go into treatment. It did not take long to make up my mind thinking about what the judge had said. I accepted this proposition

and the officer spoke to the court on my behalf and the judge accepted this and I was mandated to a drug and alcohol treatment facility.

I was sent to this facility, Integrity House in Newark, New Jersey. I was in treatment for two years. I was able to successfully complete the treatment and graduate the program. During my stay there I decided to

become an alcohol and drug counselor. I went to school sponsored by the Division of Vocational Rehabilitation. Since that time I have worked in most of the modalities from Medical Detox, Therapeutic Communities,

Methadone Clinics, Drug Court Programs. I also facilitated the Federal Alcohol and Drug Program, can you imagine that. I was once a Federal Prisoner and I have a FBI number.

There was a time when I spent all my time using and trying to get more to use and then the arrest, treatment and the miracle happened. This is not a story that I am proud of but this is who I am and these life

experiences make me uniquely qualified to address the subject of alcohol and other drugs of abuse.

You will find here on this site many misconceptions clarified and I hope you can make an informed decision about using or not using. Even more important, if you have used, how to get into some kind of

treatment to recover from addiction and abuse of substances.
